PSNC – Instytut Chemii Bioorganicznej Pan – Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry – Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center

PSNC is affiliated to the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Instytut Chemii Bioorganicznej PAN) and is responsible for the development and management of PIONIER, the national research network in Poland, which is connected to the GEANT2 network at the speed of 10Gbit/s. PSNC employs about 200+ people divided into four departments: Supercomputing, Scientific Applications, Network and Network Services. It is an HPC Center, Systems and Network Security Center as well as R&D Center of New Generation Networks, Grids and Portals. PSNC is also the operator of Polish National Research and Education Network PIONIER, Operator of Poznań Metropolitan Area Network POZMAN. PSNC is the Centre of Excellence of Sun Microsystems Inc. and Microsoft Innovation Center. It is also the official Cisco Networking Regional Academy. The institution participated in numerous projects e.g.: European: RINGrid, DORII, GridLab, CrossGrid, EGEE, int.eu.grid and national: PROGRESS, Virtual Laboratory, SGIgrid - High Performance Computing and Visualisation, PL-GRID and PLATON.

The work done by PSNC in PRACE and the plans for the new project are in cooperation with other HPC centres in Poland: CYFRONET (Academic Computer Centre CYFRONET AGH), ICM (Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, University of Warsaw), TASK (Academic Computer Centre in Gdansk, Gdansk University of Technology), WCSS (Wroclaw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing, Wroclaw University of Technology).

We will use our knowledge and experience in the project participating in technical work of activities WP9, WP8, WP7, WP6, WP4. PSNC is especially interested in development of new promising technologies, co-operation between Tier0 and Tier1 centres, distributed and parallel applications support, increased reliability and performance of production HPC systems. We have also significant experience in user and administrator trainings, organisation of tutorials and other dissemination activities.
